Pilates machines look like torture devices. Why should I go on one of those machines?

The Pilates equipment can look like a torture device, but it makes you feel so good. At HEYlifetraining Fitness and Wellness, I use the Pilates Reformer and the Cadillac, these Pilates machines are not unlike pulley equipment in a gym.

Let’s not forget there is the mat workout. J. Pilates designed a comprehensive workout without the use of equipment – just the body. Here is what the inventor of Pilates had to say: In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 sessions you will see the difference, and in 30 you will have a new body. ~ Joe Pilates

Will Pilates help me lose weight?

No. Pilates does not help you lose weight but has shown to increase awareness and this seems to also translate into your food choices. Some of the more advanced session do become more aerobic in nature and then do increase burning of calories.

Does Pilates tone up my problem areas?

No. Rather then spot training Pilates, due the use of springs, creates a non-impact workout designed to tone the entire body and not bulk up muscles.

I feel like Pilates is more a relaxing form of exercise.

Pilates is a non-impact and gentle form of exercise and can be just that for those needing a slower gentler workout (i.e. arthritis, back pain, cancer survivors) On the other hand we always challenge the core, focus on spinal alignment and uniform development of the entire body. For those seeking to work harder, be challenged and sweat – Pilates is the way to go as we can change the speed and spring configuration to challenge even the most advanced client.

How many times per week is right for me?

Depending on your needs 1-3 times per week with varied approaches to your workouts.

What do I wear when I come to training sessions?

Come in comfortable clothes that you can move freely in and for Pilates no shoes.
