The Significant Other in Your Life: More Than Just a Partner

Does your day look like this: Commute, work all day, go home, squeeze in a workout, and have dinner? Repeat the next day. We are so busy running around that we may forget someone important.

Who is the person you spend most of your time with?

When do you spend time with the person you love?

My work schedule is flexible as a fitness entrepreneur and small studio owner. I can schedule my life around my clients. I work odd hours sometimes, but I love the freedom this lifestyle gives me. For instance, I have lunch with my husband frequently, as he works from home. We can often schedule our workouts together as well and may go for a run during the day.

I recently looked through my pictures and guess what I found out? I spend most of my time with the person I love, my husband! This comes as no surprise because we have a lot in common and enjoy the same activities. We have been busy planning our trip to Antarctica. We will run a marathon there – but more of that in another blog. Needless to say, we have a ton of fun and adventures together.

How do you juggle your relationship with a full work schedule and other obligations?

With a little bit of planning and determination, you will fit your VIP (very important person) into your life.

Ask yourself those 4 questions and write down your answers. This may not be easy at first, but give it a go.

    • Who is the person you spend most of your time with?
    • Is it a person you want to spend time with, or is it circumstantial?
    • What things do you enjoy with your VIP?
    • What changes can you make in your day to spend more time with the person you love?

These solutions may depend on who you want to spend time with and where they live, right? The distance can make it just as hard as a full work schedule.

    Here are my simple solutions:

    • What if that person does not live near? Call them once a week to stay in touch
    • Plan an annual get-together (I am thinking of my kids, as they moved far from home)
    • What if you come home so late that your VIP is already in bed? Come home earlier once a week to spend more time with your VIP
    • Set up a lunch date during the day. This is just like any meeting you are putting on your schedule
    • Schedule a workout with your VIP once per week (this is so doable)

We are taking on so many responsibilities, and most of us feel “spread thin” when it comes to relationships.

The person you love has to be in the #1 spot in your life, nothing else will fill your heart with more joy.
